Business Development and Strategy Internship
Location: Waltham, MA

Company Overview: Our client is a product-focused drug delivery company developing therapies to treat diseases of mucosal tissues and associated organs. Using its technology platform, our client is able to formulate drugs so they are able to pass through protective mucus layers thereby avoiding the rapid clearance often associated with local delivery to mucosal tissues. Our client’s formulations can result in more uniform and/or sustained local delivery to any mucosal tissue and the underlying organ. Led by an interdisciplinary team of successful industry professionals and investors with extensive experience in the life sciences sector, our client will create novel pharmaceutical formulations that will markedly improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
Description of Position: Our client is looking for a current graduate student with a life sciences background to join their team as an intern to assist with business oriented activities. The individual hired for this role would report to the VP of Corporate Development and work alongside the senior management team. The primary responsibility for this individual would be to perform an assessment for the therapeutics market looking at strategy, the competitive landscape, market size, portfolio optimization, and product development path. The information developed through this research would be used to assist with decision making for corporate strategy purposes to drive product development, positioning, and potential collaborations, partnerships, or alliances. In this role, the individual would be exposed to all functional areas within the company, becoming a valued member of the team. The deliverables from the project would be a summary document, as well as a presentation of findings, and well supported recommendations to the management team.
Timing of Internship: This internship is a full time internship during the summer of 2012.
Candidate Requirements: Essential: A current graduate student (MBA, Ph.D., MD. MD/MBA, MPH) who has an undergraduate degree in a life sciences discipline. An understanding of the life sciences industry, specifically in the area of drug discovery and development and formulation development. Experience performing market assessment and competitive landscape evaluations and familiarity with resources used to perform both primary and secondary market research. Interest in working in an entrepreneurial environment. Strategic problem solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a team and wear many hats. Desirable: In-depth understanding of the following therapeutic markets: lung, ocular, mouth, and GI. Experience working in a consulting company. Advanced graduate degree in the life or medical sciences (PhD or MD). Knowledge of preclinical and clinical development including timelines, costs, studies, and organizations performing this work. Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment. Experience in developing business plans and other strategic business documents.
Business Development Internship

Company Overview:Our client leverages the power of bioinformatics and data analytics to transform human health through improvements in therapeutic drug discovery and development as well as clinical and pharmacoeconomic health outcomes.
Description of Position: Our client is looking for a current masters, Ph.D. or MBA student or recent graduate with a bioinformatics or biostatistics background and a strong interest in the business side of science. This individual should have an interest in working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment and in developing innovative game changing technologies. This individual will work alongside senior management to assist with business activities that are important to the success of the company. This individual would take on responsibility for business projects in areas such as market research, competitive analysis, marketing and communication.
Timing of Internship: This position is preferably a full time, 6 month internship starting in the Spring of 2012. A 3 month full time internship followed by a 3 month part-time internship could be arranged as well, depending upon the availability of the person hired.
Candidate Requirements: A current masters, Ph.D. or MBA student or recent graduate. Background in bioinformatics or biostatistics would be a plus. An understanding of the healthcare industry. Experience with biostatistics would be a plus. Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment. Strong communication skills. The ability to work as part of a team. Interest in working on the business side of science. Experience performing market research and competitive analysis would be a plus.
Business Focused Internship, Boutique Life Sciences Consulting Firm
Location: Boston

Company Overview: Our client is a boutique life sciences consulting firm working with leading organizations in the life sciences sector.
Description of Position: The individual hired for this position will be involved in data gathering and analysis using excel and other data analysis tools. Excel will be used extensively to analyze data pertaining to life sciences technologies. The work done in this role will support the strategy consulting projects being done by the firm. This individual will work alongside the analysts and consultants and will be an integral member of the team. This position will be part-time (10-15 hours/week) during the spring and could turn into a full time internship during the summer.
Basic Qualifications:Currently pursuing a B.S. degree in economics, business administration, or mathematics. Recent graduates will also be considered. Life sciences experiences is not required, but if an individual has it, it would be welcome. Proficient in using Excel. Ability to program macros a plus. Strong quantitative and qualitative skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desire to work in an entrepreneurial organization.
Application Scientist for a Life Sciences Bioinformatics Company

Type: 6 month internship

Description of Position: In this position, the individual hired will develop analysis protocols for data from the companies that our client works with and their specific needs. Reverse engineer massive scale Bayesian networks to allow the companies that our client works with to make new inferences about their systems. Write clear, coherent project reports and scientific papers. Present results to companies that our client work with and to the internal Healthcare team.
Timing of Internship: This internship would last 6 months:
Candidate Requirements: Current student in or recent graduate of a M.S. program in life sciences, mathematics, statistics or computer science with relevant work experience; or Ph.D. program with relevant post-graduate research experience. Bioinformatics and/or biostatistics experience, preferably in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting. Knowledge of one of the statistical programming languages. Experience with R and Bioconductor is preferred. Scripting in PERL/Python are preferred. Excellent written and oral presentation skills required. Interest in working in an entrepreneurial environment. Strategic problem solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a team and wear many hats.
